***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

The Plainfield Art League would like to invite you to our September meeting and Open to the public One Night Show on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, from 7pm to 8:45pm at American House Cedarlake-AHC (NOTE: location change).

This months demonstration will be given by Donna Sands, who paints professionally for over sixteen years and exclusively shows her artwork in galleries in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.  Donna will be presenting Encaustic (wax) Painting.   Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface-usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used. Donna will talk about and show the 2 techniques she does, one is a slick surface when finished, and the other is more textured. She will have samples of both.

Please come early to ensure you get a seat. Light refreshments will be provided. Plainfield Art League's demonstrations are free and open to the public. Note location change. This meeting is not at the Plainfield Library. The meeting will be at American House Cedarlake-AHC which is located at 14800 S. Van Dyke Rd., Plainfield IL 60544. The facility is handicapped accessible, so don't let that stop you from joining the group in a fun and interesting night. For more information, please visit us at www.plainfieldartleague.org or send us an email to info@plainfieldartleague.org.

National Park Pass for Seniors
Does everyone know about the National Park Pass for seniors?  My wife and I did a road trip last fall and saved a lot of money using our pass.  It is for anyone age 62 or older.  Right now it costs $10 ($20 if you get it online.) and it is for your lifetime.  You and everyone in your car get into National Parks and Monuments for free with the pass.  (It costs $30 just for a pass into Yosemite otherwise.)  AARP says the cost is going to go up to $80 in the next year.  The National Parks pass website says it isn't going up in the next few months but does seem to admit that changes are coming.  I would recommend it if you even think you might go to a National Park ever.  We got ours at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie in Wilmington.  There is a list of places you can get a pass at this website: https://store.usgs.gov/senior-pass.

Members Gallery
