Fun and Informative June Demo!

We would like to extend a special thank you to Freddie Harmon for providing us with a very informative and fun demo on creating preliminary value studies for future artwork!  Not only was it a great way to hone one's eye when judging values but helps to train your eye when attempting full color work.

At some future point, we would love to have Freddie come back and take us from our black and white study into our color value study....

Thanks again Freddie - it was a lot of fun!

PAL's May Judged One-night Exhibit Winners!

Thank you to all who attended Mike Bessler's Demo on photographing your artwork this past Wednesday - it was very informative!  We would also like to thank our member judge for our one night judged exhibit - Virginia Nordwall!

Winners for our May One Night Judged Exhibit "Holy COW!" are:

Best of Theme - Tim Lutrey with his oil on canvas entitled "Y'er Out!"

Best of Show - Ron Gerard with his watercolor entitled "Wild Sea."

Second Place - Mike Bessler with his photo on Canvas entitled "Lava Falls."

Third Place - Freddie Harmon with her watercolor entitled "Orange Bee."

...and a beautiful piece entitled Arizona Sunset" by Virginia Nordwall which will be re-entered in a future show.

Next month's one night judged show will be themed "Summer Fun."  Can't wait to see what everyone has been working on!

PAL May Demo - Take Professional Photos for your Artwork with Mike Bessler

Get ready for May's Demo with PAL's resident photography expert, Mike Bessler!!!  Mike will be demonstrating how to take photos of your artwork for print and online media.  Be sure to bring some of your artwork AND your camera to the Plainfield Public Library on Wednesday, May 14th, from 7pm to 9pm in the large, downstairs meeting room.

Excellent April Demo & "Spring Flowers" Exhibit Winners

Our April Demo with Dick Blick Rep. Kevin was a really fun time last night!  We discussed acrylic paints and acrylic mediums, pan pastels, colored graphites and a wonderful new, no-bleed paper from Crescent called "Render Paper."  Everyone had hands-on time with all the materials and we had a great Q & A session.

Also, PAL held it's first ever one-night, judged exhibit with the theme "Spring Flowers!"  We will be having these on the second Wednesday of every month during our demo meetings from now on - so we hope you're getting creative so you can bring in your new work to share and win ribbons!

This month's one-night, judged exhibit was judged by our resident photography expert, Mike Bessler.  And the winners are...Best of Theme: "Radiant Sunshine" by Freddie Harmon,  Best of Show: "Autumn Splendor" by Ron Girard,  2nd Place: "River Walk" by Debbie Hart, 3rd Place:  "Morning Mist" by Cheryl Carmen. 

Congratulations everyone!  Next month's theme will be "Holy Cow!" - and you don't have to stay within the theme to win ribbons.  We hope to see more members bringing in their work in the future!

PAL 2013/2014 "Best of the Best" & Student Exhibit Winners

We want to congratulate all the winners at our annual "Best of the Best" exhibit voting & reception last night at the District 202 Jon Balke Gallery!  It was a wonderful evening.  Along with a heart-felt memorial for our friend JoAnn Deck, we celebrated the night with great art, good friends and way too much food...but a lot of fun!

Our winners include: Debbie Hart, Freddie Harmon, Mike Bessler, Courtney Weed, Gloria Moses, JoAnn Deck (accepted by daughter Tammy) & Amy Turner with our alternates, Heather Randazzo and Tim Lutrey.

And our special student winner of both a ribbon and a $50 scholarship check: 

Alexia Chlibovytsch for her untitled portrait of a young woman in graphite.  Beautiful work Alexia!

Congratulations to all of the participants and winners of PAL's recent exhibit at the Plainfield Public Library.  We had many wonderful comments from library patrons and look forward to more exhibits there in the coming year.  Great work everyone!!!

Best of Show: Inner Energy, Heather Randazzo - I'm from Michigan and this painting reminded me of up North on a fall day. Gorgeous colors!

Best of Theme: Autumn Road, Tim Lutrey - Beautiful impressionistic painting. Nice blend and layering of colors in top left of trees. Cast shadows are powerful in the lower right. 

First Place: Red, Debbie Hart - Exquisite attention to details. Nice treatment of paint on the mane.

Second Place: White Peony with Red Traces, Mike Bessler - Beautiful composition (great eye). Nice, sharp details captured the flowers up front really well.

Third Place: Emerald Woods, Freddie Harmon - Nice transition from foreground to midground to background. Beautiful colors throughout the painting.
